Don't Sleep: Necessary Notables

Mixtape: Recession Proof

Headliners: Play-N-Skillz

Key Cameos: Talib Kweli on "Go Get the Money," T-Pain on "Everybody Else"

Essential Info: Zing!!!! Play-N-Skillz, we love you, but damn, twice in one year? If you guys aren't hip to the rivalry the brothers have with a certain member of the Mixtape Daily family when it comes to his New York Giants and their Dallas Cowboys, well, the Grammy-winning duo got let down by their home team again when the 'Boys lost to the G-Men. B.W., look forward to seeing you in that Tuck jersey. It's all love, fellas.

Play-N-Skillz have been getting recognition for their production over the past few years (Lil Wayne, Nelly, Slim Thug, etc.), but they haven't forgotten their passion for rapping. The fellas just put out their Recession Proof mixtape with all-new beats and rhymes.

"Just letting everyone know this whole phrase 'recession,' we gotta get to the money," Play said. "It seems like it's an excuse for everybody to not pay what your work might be worth. Everybody is like, 'Hey, man, I can't pay that much for this beat because it's a recession.' Or 'I can't come out to the party tonight.' We're just saying we're recession-proof. We're gonna live our life regardless. Even though it hit everybody, but we have to have the mentality that it's not there."

"You can't get lazy," Skillz said. "You have to keep working."

Play-N-Skillz are the sole producers on the mixtape. Both brothers say they wanted to drop some product as artists to check the temperature of their fanbase and see if the people still want them. From all the pre-orders they've gotten, the fellas are feeling pretty good.

"We see, 'OK, people still care,' " Play said. "We're getting a lot of feedback."

Lil Wayne, Krayzie Bone, Bun B, Lil Jon, Ray J, Hurricane Chris and Slim of 112 are a few guests on the tape.

"Talib came to Dallas. He was doing a show," Play said of the song "Go Get the Money." "Our manager B.W. hung out with him. We seen him around. B said, 'Play-N-Skillz are in the studio doing a song.' He was like, 'All right, let's do something.' He actually did something with a band we were working with, the Big Red Rooster. Meanwhile, he was like, 'I need some tracks.' That guy, we haven't worked with that genre of hip-hop, the hardcore-MC type. It was a challenge for us. The 'Go Get the Money' was one of the songs he picked. He didn't wind up using it, so we was like, 'We gonna do something on it.' Hurricane Chris heard it; he said, 'Let me put a verse on it. I don't care where it goes.' "

Also look out for Play-N-Skillz to be doing the music for a Slim Thug reality show. The show is tentatively titled "Thug Love."
